Waste Management Phoenix Open turns into one giant hot spot

Golf fans attending the 2015 Waste Management Phoenix Open can selfie and upload with speed  during tournament with help from additional cell towers and Wi-Fi hotspots.
This year Cox Business has turned the entire golf course into one giant Wi-Fi hot spot. They also added more than a dozen new Wi-Fi wireless access points between the 16th and 18th hole to help the social media enthusiast post pictures of Tiger Woods with ease. The tournament is expected to cater to over 600,000 fans over the course of the week.

Sprint also brought a high capacity cell site on wheels (COW) to the course for their customers so they may have enhanced voice, data and text messaging services. This way everyone can tweet and Instagram Phoenix Open photos with little fear of seeing the “failed to send” notification.
The additional mobile and Wi-Fi service is also installed to help golf goers use the improved Waste Management Phoenix Open Mobile App – a must have for this week. The app allows fans to enter sweepstakes, see the PGA leaderboard, find their car and help them navigate around the Open.

These advancements in technology for the tournament support their “Zero Waste” initiatives by eliminating paper and transferring the same information into a digital form. All energy used at the Phoenix Open was generated from renewable sources.
