Curtis Gunn, Chairman of Desert Angels, is the first Arizona investor to be appointed to the Angel Capital Association Board, and will serve for three years. The Angel Capital Association is the leading professional and trade association supporting the success of angel investors in high-growth, early-stage ventures.
“I look forward to raising the awareness of Arizona companies, bring more high-quality deal flow and attract other angel groups to benefit our entrepreneurial ecosystem. It’s an honor to be asked to be on the board and serve Arizona well.”
The Association is broadening the scope that it serves. Historically it’s been an organization that works specifically with angel groups and now it is expanding to individual angels and family offices, Gunn explains.
“We’re excited to have Curtis Gunn join the ACA Board. Curtis and his new ACA Board colleagues understand first-hand what it takes to start an entrepreneurial business,” said Marianne Hudson, executive director of ACA. “These individuals are experts at job creation. They have originated and shared best practices with other angels and groups across the North America and the world. They exemplify the energy and commitment of the ACA membership as a whole, to investing both capital and expertise to build and grow startup companies.”
Desert Angels has also been recently ranked 11th in the country for most deals done in the US according to the HALO report. The report was announced at the Angel Capital Association’s annual summit in San Francisco.
In 2012, the Desert Angels had the most active year out of their 13 year history. The group made investments of over $3.9M into 19 different companies with products in life science, clean tech, software, healthcare IT, medical devices and renewable energy-all but one of these investments was placed in Arizona companies. The Angels’s group membership is also currently at an all-time high with a roster of 94 individuals.
