Arizona ranked no. 3 in country for job recovery

We probably sound like a broken record at this point, but Arizona is doing really well in economic recovery coming out of the Covid-19 pandemic. Here’s another report that proves it.

Arizona is number 3 in the country for job recovery, according to a report from the Arizona Commerce Authority. The state’s job recovery rate is 87%, behind only Idaho and Utah.

The nationwide job recovery rate is at 70%. Arizona’s strong recovery is being attributed to our robust economy pre-pandemic.

“That allowed the economy during the initial months to be less impacted by the pandemic,” Doug Walls, labor market information director at the Authority’s Office of Economic Opportunity, told KTAR

The private sector saw a gain of 26,000 jobs in June, a huge upside compared to the historical average of 2,700 private sector jobs lost in June.

“The private sector had averaged a loss of 9,000 jobs in the month of June,” Walls said. “To see a gain of 26,000 jobs is significant.”

The government sector recorded a loss of 34,800 jobs in June, which is less than the historical average of 42,400 jobs lost.

The report shows that Arizona’s labor force increased by almost 11,000 people, and the unemployment rate slightly increased to 6.8% in June. This shows that more people are looking for work, as Arizona ended the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation supplement a couple of weeks ago.
