STEAM festival draws 380,000 attendees

Imagine a STEAM festival that attracted close to five times the number of attendees that could fit in the University of Phoenix Cardinal stadium. The Arizona SciTech Festival, a statewide celebration of STEAM that ran February to March of this year, released their report on the positive impact the Festival had on the community.
In collaboration with over 700 organizations, schools and partners, 51 cities and towns and over 1,000 STEAM events, the Festival attracted 380,000 attendees from 3- to 103- years-old.

The Festival kicked off with a Virtual Press Conference, connecting over 15 communities at 10 locations from Verde Valley to Mesa.
“Not all of Arizona’s communities are created equal and it is important to us that we bridge this technological gap,” Jeremy Babendure, Executive Director AZ SciTech Festival said in a previous report.

The Festival offered many opportunities for all generations to enjoy and be inspired by some aspect of STEAM. Some highlights during the Festival included:
Bridging companies such as Orbital, Intel and Hydronalix with schools
City-led events bringing experiences to diverse communities
Colleges around the state led events such as Night of the Open Door (ASU) that had activites, tours and performances, and Maricopa County Colleges presented diverse events with science expos, tours and career fairs.
The Innovation Arizona Summit was a great opportunity to bring together diverse audiences of industry and community leaders, entrepreneurs, educators and students to connect Arizona’s “Innovation Lifecycle”

Sneaky Science, Geeks Night Out, Baseball City, Southwest Makerfest and the Science of Chocolate are just some of the other unique events designed to spark the interest in STEAM.
