Last weekend, Tucson’s premiere entrepreneurship development organization, Startup Tucson, hosted the fourth annual Startup Weekend Tucson. The event brought together aspiring entrepreneurs to collaborate and bring their business ideas from concept to launch in 54 hours. Teams presented their new ventures to a public audience and a panel of investor-judges for feedback, awards, and some sweet prizes.
The top prizes went to:
Hurb- a self contained and automated hydroponics for home use
Wildcat Safety Systems- utilizing drone technology for first responders
Put It Down- a tool for eliminating phone texting related car accidents

Some of the other teams will spend the next 5 weeks building their idea at Thryve:X, an entrepreneurship incubator run by Startup Tucson, include:
Go Ivory Free –curbs the world’s ivory market through market transformation
Foresight Communities – provides long-term living for women escaping domestic violence
eFIT- an interactive tool promoting healthy employees in corporate settings
Paginas- website creation and hosting system, exported to South America
BIZaar- E-commerce platform connecting Tucson’s residence with locally owned businesses
Vendur- simple, sharable e-commerce page
Milky Bun- a new dessert concept focusing on the college campus market
Perfect Stick- automated and efficient intravenous needle insertion
Snap Clean- landscape bidding and job listing product
The teams are also preparing to pitch at IdeaFunding on October 23rd. IdeaFunding brings together the Tucson entrepreneurial community from young startups to experienced entrepreneurs and investors – to nurture and support innovation and creativity.
