Robotics, beat boxing, communicating with dolphins, public art instigators, psychologists, nuclear scientists, virtual choir and yo-yo champions-just some of the amazing talent and topics covered this year at TED Talks 2013. Axosoft, lead by CEO Hamid Shojaee, put on his own version of Ted with AXOTED 2013. The three day event included a livestream of the Talks and invited local speakers such as Tania Katan, curator for SMoCA, Pouria Paknejad, attorney, and Barry Moon, ASU professor and sound and video artist, as well as health and wellness experts, to share their expertise and inspiration. Other activities included yoga sessions and wine tasting-even Phoenix food truck entrepreneurs Brad and Kat of Short Leash Dogs showed up. Axosoft seemed to capture the spirit of TED and in the process inspire it’s employees and guests to achieve their own greatness.

  1. TED 2013 was quite an event, and I really enjoyed watching it streamed live at Axosoft’s headquarters. The talk that I found most inspiring was that of Allan Savory: http://www.ted.com/talks/allan_savory_how_to_green_the_world_s_deserts_and_reverse_climate_change.html
Reversing the desertification of Earth’s grasslands and halting rapid climate change are not small challenges. And yet, the solution he provides — with evidence — is astonishingly simple: mimic nature’s herding animals with livestock. This is a huge paradigm shift and orders of magnitude less expensive, invasive, and damaging to the environment than other alternatives that don’t even work.
    Highly recommended!
