20/20 for the Over 40 Eyes
One mobile app aims to help those who need a little extra help reading small text: Over 40. The application combines a magnifier and flashlight to assist those who have poor vision. While the name implies that once you hit 40 you need magnifiers-which might make them want to consider a rename-the app does help aid in reading the fine print on labels and menus in a dimly lit restaurant among other uses.
Created by Troy Anderson, owner of Elbow Room Studios in Scottsdale, Ariz., the Over 40 app, first available in 2010, launched V2.0 featuring magnification up to 10 times and a bright flashlight. It also has a freeze frame component to be used for sending photos.
Since the launch of his application, Anderson has heard numerous testimonies from those who have found his application to be useful in their daily lives.
“I was surprised and moved that my app could help in such a significant way,” Anderson said. “While I developed the app to help people read menus in restaurants, I really enjoy hearing how others are using it.”
Anderson has been developing software and applications for over 24 years. In addition to Over 40, he has launched three other applications for smartphones: Courtside Stats, Make It So and Essential Travel Checklist. Elbow Room also offers digital, branding and online marketing.
The app is available for download at iTunes for the iPhone and Android here for $1.99.
