Let me take a 4K Selfie – CES 2015

It’s the year of 4K – 4K TVs, 4K streaming, 4K cameras and 4K camcorders. With smartphones slowly replacing traditional cameras, companies are looking for new ways to attract customers. Lets take a took at the different cameras and camcorders unveiled at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Sony
FDR-AX33

Sony released the FDR-AX33, an update to its previous 4K Camcorder. It is 30 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter. The FDR-AX33 is equipped with Sony’s newest technology, the Balanced Optical SteadyShot (B.O.SS) image stabilization reduces blur while recording 4K video. The FDR-AX33 shoots at 26.8mm (widest angle), there is a custom manual ring for advanced videographers and also features a multi-camera control mode that allows user to use Wi-Fi to control up to five devices at the same time.
Available in February for $999.
 
FDR-X1000VR

Sony’s 4K adventure camera FDR-X1000VR is splash-proof, GPS equipped and can capture high-bitrate recordings at 4K (3840×2160@30p 100Mbps1/60Mpbs). Users can also shoot Full HD video at 120p and HD video at 240p. The FDR-X1000VR features a 170° field of view, with an ultra-wide angle.

Nikon

For professional photographers, Nikon released their ever first touch screen DSLR, the D5500. Although touch-screen DSLR’s has been in the market since 2012, Nikon only recently released their variation of the touch-screen DSLR. For fans of Nikon, here is another option to consider.

With the rise of adventure cameras come the Casio FR10, an action camera that lets you detach the camera and let users take photos from any place. Using Bluetooth to connect the LCD touchscreen and camera, users can detach the camera for up to 10 meters.

The HTC RE is an interestingly shaped camera, it is shape like a periscope designed for one hand use. There is a grip sensor that instantly turns on when picked up. It has a 16 Megapixel camera that can take HD videos, water-proof for up to one meter underwater, 146° wide angle lens, and connectivity to both iOS and Android phones so that users can control their RE from their smartphones. The camera takes 1080p, Full HD videos, slow-mo videos and also time-lapse.

After a delayed release, Polaroid Socialmatic camera is finally available for consumers. The Socialmatic Camera which looks like an Instagram icon allows users to take digital photos and print at the same time.
Some unique features in the Socialmatic camera include:

  • Instant posting via built in Wi-Fi

Consumers are able to capture and immediately post images to their favorite social networking sites, via built-in Wi-Fi. If Wi-Fi isn’t available, the camera can be paired with smartphones via Bluetooth to enable instant sharing from virtually anywhere.

  • Two cameras and 4.5″ Touchscreen

The Socialmatic has a 14 megapixel front-side camera, a two megapixel rear-side camera and a 4.5″ touchscreen.

  • Frontal LCD with Mood Assistant A.I.

The mood assistant lets user change their frontal LCD screen to reflect their current mood, it also lets users find new followers through a unique mood QR code.

  • Zero Ink digital printing

The Socialmatic camera will allow users to select, print and share images instantly on ZINK Paper featuring the inkless printing technology by ZINK Imaging.

  • Editing and printing

Images can be touched up, edited, and consumers can add clip art, icons or text to any image prior to printing or posting.  When ready, the user just presses print and the Socialmatic camera will automatically print a 2X3 inch full-color sticker-backed ZINK photo in under a minute.

  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS

The Socialmatic camera runs on Android and has built in WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and QR code.
Available for $299 in white and black.
