Startup NoteBowl can help college students survive freshman year

NoteBowl, a startup coming out of Tucson, AZ, is quickly gaining steam as the newest online platform that plans to revolutionize the higher education system.
NoteBowl is a Campus Life Solution: a comprehensive platform for universities that goes beyond the standard learning management system (LMS) by putting the entire university experience in one place. NoteBowl’s vision is to give students, professors, and administrators one location where they can communicate with each other, manage their courses, and engage with their campus community. With a modern, intuitive feel, NoteBowl improves institutional efficiency and increases student success, both inside and outside the classroom.
Currently, NoteBowl is in its pilot testing stage at the University of Arizona – the place where the team of 10 began their journey. CEO and Founder of NoteBowl, Andrew Chaifetz, said he created the Ed Tech startup because he wanted to, “make an impact on higher education.”

Think of Blackboard and Facebook mashed together to offer up one place where academics, clubs and other school-related content converge. It is important to note that the university has full control over the content and usage of the platform and owns all of the data.
Jim McLean, professor at the Eller College of Management who is currently participating in the pilot program said, “I found the whole thing pretty seamless, very easy. Compared to other LMS in the market, I think this will be a superior platform.”
Christina Schoch, professor in the Special Education, Rehabilitation, and School Psychology (SERP) department who is currently testing the program expressed, “The upload speed was phenomenal. I was able to upload 10-20 files in a minute. It was quicker than the other LMS I have used. I look forward to using it next semester.”
This past February, the NoteBowl team battled the final 16 startups at Venture Madness and has since moved their operations to a cushy new office in ASU’s SkySong facility. NoteBowl was awarded $15,000 and the new office space by ASU’s Edson Student Entrepreneurship Initiative. In addition to their recent accomplishments, the team is being mentored by an expert in his field; Aaron Matos, CEO of Jobing.com. Next up for Chaifetz and the NoteBowl team is the annual conference EduCause from September 29-October 2 in Orlando, FL, where they will showcase their innovative and socially academic platform.
The NoteBowl team plans to launch their mobile app in Spring 2015 and expanding to other universities.
