Startup Tucson launches Thryve – a social impact incubator

Tucson’s premiere entrepreneurship development organization, Startup Tucson, is proud to announce the launch of Thryve, a social impact incubator. The new incubator resides in Startup Tucson’s CoLab workspace offices at Holualoa’s historic Pioneer Building at 17 E. Pennington Street Tucson, AZ 85710.
Justin Williams, chairman & founder of Startup Tucson, shared that the inspiration to start a niche incubator came out of a Startup Weekend they hosted a few months ago; with the help of the startup community, the idea became a reality. Williams and Jennifer Teufel Schoenberger (H2H Venture Philanthropy) will be leading the curriculum building, education and attracting mentors to the program, and Michael McDonald (CEO, Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona) will lead the instruction.
Thryve’s intensive 10-week entrepreneurship incubation program begins mid-June and focuses on a group of innovators developing social impact concepts. Thryve is accepting online applications through April 30, 2014.  The cost per cohort team is $2,000 which includes the full 10-week program and followed by up to a year of continued support. Williams said that they hope to provide scholarships for the majority of selected cohorts, but it will solely depend on private funding and donations.

Williams said that Thryve is following a lean startup model similar to other social impact incubators around the state. The program will offer entrepreneurs the tools to take their innovations from idea to impact including coaching with experienced mentors, a community of motivated entrepreneurs, opportunities for expanding your professional network, and the strategy and pitch training necessary to access capital.
Thryve is built upon a collaboration of Justin Williams (Startup Tucson), Jennifer Teufel Schoenberger (H2H Venture Philanthropy), Curtis Gunn (Chair, Desert Angels), Michael McDonald (CEO, Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona) and Nikki Halle (Russ Lyon’s Sotheby’s).
