Developers of the “Ugly Meter” app Jo Overline and Ryan Allen joined lifelong friend Bryan Mitchell (Geared) to form Little Box app and create Monsters Invade OZ, launching globally on iOS today.
The game is an RPG based on the world from the Wizard of Oz. Players can battle over 100 monsters, explore six unique worlds, and complete quests.
Overline and Allen’s first “big hit” mobile app was the “Ugly Meter.” The app has scanned 52,758,138 faces and has 6,667,838 new users in 2013. Since their launch of “Ugly Meter” in October of 2010, they have successfully launched multiple new apps, including Monsters Invade Oz. After “Ugly Meter” received media attention from the likes of Howard Stern, The Today Show, The Tonight Show, Fox News, The Daily Mail, The Huffington Post, The New York Post, CBS News, MSNBC, CNN, and more, it skyrocketed to the #1 spot on the App Store.
Recently, Monsters Invade Oz won the “Best in Play” award at the Game Developers Conference (GDC). Kotaku described the game as “Wizard of Oz meets Pokemon.” There are monsters to collect, evolve, and defeat as you travel by an avatar down the yellow brick road in order to defeat the Wicked Witch. The game is made up of original hand-drawn art and is described as a battle with “adorable monsters.”
