Phoenix Global Startup Battle begins Nov. 14

Entrepreneurs: ready your voices, fine-tune your pitches and get set for one of the largest startup competitions in the world. UP Phoenix is bringing the Global Startup Battle to the Valley in a 54-hour rapid-fire event that brings together local designers, developers and entrepreneurs.
Centered around Global Entrepreneurship Week, the initiative was created by Startup Weekend to create a larger, global community of entrepreneurs. In November, hundreds of Startup Weekend and UP Global programs will be hosted around the world and the winning teams from each event will progress to another global video competition.
“Startup Weekend’s have always been an amazing opportunity to bring together some of best and brightest local designers, developers and entrepreneurs for 54 hours of team building, prototyping and pitching,” Brandon Clarke, a regional instigator at Startup Arizona, said. “The Global Startup Battle ratchets it up a few notches, pitting Phoenix against 200 cities across the globe.”

The Phoenix Global Startup Battles kicks off in downtown Phoenix’s rustic warehouse district with participants pitching and voting on the top ideas on November 14. The rest of the weekend is dedicated to working in teams to ultimately wrap up with presentations and awards on November 16.
While there have been over a dozen Startup Weekend events hosted by a variety of organizations in Phoenix over the last few years, the Phoenix Global Startup Battle is the first time the city is represented in the overall transnational event.
“Phoenix is often viewed as an outsider in the broader startup ecosystem throughout the country and events like these rally the local community and help put a global spotlight on some of the amazing talent we have here,” Clarke said. “They’re also a lot of fun and a great opportunity to validate a new idea, network and expand your professional skill set.”
