The ease of installing home automation gadgets – FOX News – Video

While I consider myself a fairly tech savvy individual, my initial thoughts of installing a home automation system for the house was fairly daunting and images of me being on the phone with service providers, reprogramming the router, calling a handyman and endless calls to the product manufacturer filled my head. Truth be told, I’ve been resisting this tech add-on…until now.
I was given the opportunity to try out two systems, Insteon and Kwikset, and I have to say, I’m sold. The ease of installation for each system took about an hour, including the time to install the eKey system into the door, and the programming for the smart devices was less stressful than anticipated.
These gadgets are catching on more and more with homeowners who are looking save you money on energy, but on your insurance as well. To date over 1.8 million systems were installed last year and expected to grow to 12 million by 2016 with the market expected to grow from $17 million to a $36 million industry.
If you want to see these gadgets in action, Fox News reporter Kristy Siefkin and I will show you some of the latest products on the market and what they can do for your family-and yes, I caught my dog on the couch.
