The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) recently compiled a list of the top universities around the world and the University of Arizona (UA) and Arizona State University ranks high on the list.

Coming in at No. 70 out of 1,000, the UA measures high in quality of education and training of students. In addition, the prestige of faculty members and quality of their research are also measured, without relying on surveys and university data submissions.

The UA moves up eight spots from No. 78 to No. 70 in this year’s list and is Arizona’s highest-ranking university in the report. Arizona State University is ranked at No. 106 and Northern Arizona University comes in at No. 783.

“This good news underscores our commitment to excellence in discovery and teaching at the UA, and it is gratifying to receive such a strong ranking based on measures of academic quality,” said Andrew Comrie, senior vice president for academic affairs and UA provost.

The No. 1 spot on the list goes to the Ivy League’s Harvard University with Stanford University coming in at a close No. 2. Other top ranked universities from around the world are University of Cambridge ranked No. 4 and University of Tokyo ranked No. 13.

Universities are judged on eight weighted criteria, including quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, publications appearing in influential journals, citations, broad impact, and patent filings.
