Plenty of activity has been brewing from our startup community this year, bringing us a wide variety of tech ventures from different fields. From cooking apps to rideshare programs, dozens of local startups have been launching their efforts, once again reinforcing Arizona’s healthy environment for entrepreneurs, innovation and technology. Here is a quick recap of the startups that have made their way onto the scene in 2014 so far.
The app addiction.to lets users easily find people who share the same interests and attend common events. It launched in February at ASU as part of an exclusive beta test.
The Crowd Mics app turns smartphones and tablets into microphones so an audience can be heard through a room’s sound system. It works through WiFi or a Bluetooth receiver and offers a text comment and a simple polling feature to enhance crowd interaction with presenters.
Splicity is a mobile video production app that lets users turn parts of their every day life into short and compelling stories. It focuses on creativity and places humanity at its core. Splicity is a Seed Spot venture.
Tucson-based Outski is a social media, banking and travel website. Users can search and book flights and hotels, vacation plans can be shared with friends and family, and users can even set up a “vacation savings account.”
2Shoes, a Tucson company, is a web-based question app that aims to empower curiosity and increase interaction in large audience settings through their mobile devices. Its long-term goal is to empower the voice of the audience in large venue setting such as political debates, town-hall meetings.
Cookstarter, an app created by Tucson resident, Ben Butterworth and developed by Y Media Labs, is an interactive cooking experience that showcases simple-to-read instructions, macro size photos and videos, audio instructions and categories recipes for easy look-up.
Find Your Influence
Find Your Influence (FYI) is a cloud-based, web application that enables advertisers, agencies and influencers to efficiently manage campaigns from beginning to end. It uses one product interface, maxing out its reach by utilizing ones’ social platform (influencer) to market its company.
GLTYR stands for “Give Life To Your Reality.” It’s a mobile app that allows users to quickly create web pages with text, photo, video, and audio recordings all from a mobile device.
Developed by a University of Advancing Technology alumnus, Grave is a first-person, open-exploration survival horror game where the player must discover a series of mysterious items in an abandoned town. It uses Oculus Rift to give the player a virtual reality experience.
hackMYhealth is a mobile app that transforms smartphones into a comprehensive medical alerting platform for active individuals faced with medical conditions such as seizures, asthma, or migraines.
Mobile Safe Case
Mobile Safe Case will keep valuables safe on-the-go. The patent pending technology allows an individual to lock and unlock precious cargo via the Mobile Safe smartphone app, as well as through a personalized pin number.
The app gives students a personal approach to purchasing and selling textbooks via a social component. This allows users to meet other like-minded classmates that might share the same course schedule as well as encourages peer-to-peer interaction.
The app creates a personalized and fun purchasing outlet for consumers, as well as a current, direct marketing outlet for businesses. Pitooey’s features create a two-way, intimate connection between consumers and the businesses they frequent.

A Gilbert-based company, Socious is an online customer community platform that provides companies with a hub for customers to share ideas, access experts and advice, and provide feedback on products.
eJobba is an online database that will help consumers and businesses with their busy lives by efficiently finding qualified workers to do tasks for them. It provides consumers with a simple and safe way to find local workers for jobs ranging from home improvement to self-improvement.
Ruby Ride is a car rideshare company that sets itself apart by using its own vehicles and drivers. It might even encourage users to replace their own vehicles through the programs’s option for quick, multiple stops.
HipDash by eyefire
HipDash by the startup eyefire is smart analytics dashboard that’s helping business owners make smarter decisions faster with the help of easy to use, automated, real-time performance metrics.
Force Impact Technologies
The ASU startup is the maker of FITGuard and aims to improve the safety of athletes in a meaningful and cost-effective manner. FITGuard is a mouth guard that indicates the level of force an athlete goes through and then syncs that information to a database and smartphone.
BevDog is a real-time, national online directory for restaurants and bars to post their daily specials and happy hour menus. Each restaurant or bar operates their profile within the Bevdog platform, making it faster and simpler for consumers to view updated menus and specials on a daily basis
BlueSpark is a self-help app that lets high school athletes research the best colleges for themselves. It provides step-by-step guidance to aid these particular students in the process of choosing a college that best fits an individual who might not be heavily scouted for their athletic skills, but rather need an additional tool to help with the college research process.
Proctor.io is a tool to help prevent cheating in academic settings. It’s a scalable, fully-automated remote proctoring system that can be implemented within university’s learning management system, creating a scalable cloud network, helping professors proctor exams online.

It encourages and strengthens the relationships between athletes, coaches and parents on an internal and external level with the help of 21 tools and hundreds of features.
