AudioEye Delivers an Audio Internet for the Visually Impaired

AudioEye (AEYE.OB) the creator of Audio Internet is a patented Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) audio browsing and automated publishing technology platform that works to enable Internet access for the blind and visually impaired. This year AudioEye was voted Gold Edison Award winner for innovation in the category of “Lifestyle and Social Impact; Quality of Life.” This concept expanded and evolved into an overall “audio Internet” for hands-free mobility.

AudioEye, based in Tucson, consists of a team with a strong technology background in online video delivery, streaming media, and mobile software development. They also work with the MIS department at the University of Arizona. Chief Operating Officer Jim Crawford, explains, “Students are actively participating in brainstorming and testing of the system and are making suggestions that help further the platform.”

After the introduction of The Americans with Disabilities Act and the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA), AudioEye saw the need for an audio Internet. Crawford explains that they see the government sector as an important vertical with a lot of potential growth. “The mandate handed down by the CVAA reinforced earlier this year by the White House gives what we feel is a strong play to be the 3rd party solution to enabling that compliance,” Crawford states.

AudioEye plans to work with online publishers in order to implement their system. Crawford explains, “This is one of the competitive advantages of our platform in that we don’t require the end user to install any software, modify their system, or purchase any hardware for our software to work.” Once a publisher signs up, then AudioEye creates a mirror image and embeds the audio version of their site. The software “sits like a fly on the wall” that the player can invoke through a keystroke and then be navigated in different modes according to user preference.

“We take the burden off the end user,” states Crawford.

AudioEye recently went public in April 2013, one of many milestones for the company. For the future, they plan to grow their sales initiative with a focus on government contracts. They hope to continue to innovate in the areas of audio mobility and accessibility.
