Pearson Is The World's Leading Learning Company

We started AZTechBeat for one reason–we want to bring more attention to the local tech scene and the diverse group of companies that operate here. It baffles us that the scene is largely ignored by local and national press. After all, there are some highly successful companies in Arizona–and a whole bunch of startups doing big things. Pearson is one of those massively successful companies.
Pearson is an international publisher and the world’s leading learning company and book publisher. The company has global headquarters in London and New Jersey–and they operate locally out of an office in Chandler. In a world dominated by startups, Pearson is likely the oldest company we’ll ever cover on this blog–Samuel Pearson founded the company in London way back in 1844!
Nowadays, the company has over 40,000 employees throughout the world and is publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange. While the company was originally one of the world’s largest construction companies, they have since become a force to be reckoned with in the publishing and learning industries. The company operates three main branches–all quite large.
The first branch of the company is Penguin–one of the world’s largest book publishers. Penguin owns dozens of publishing imprints and currently operates in the United States, England, Ireland, New Zealand, India, Australia, Canada, China and South Africa.  If you’ve purchased any books recently, chances are pretty good that at least one of them was published and released by Penguin.
The second branch of the company is the Financial Times Group. This wing of the company puts out the Financial Times–an international business newspaper that is published in London and printed in 24 cities throughout the world. The company also runs FT.com–a website that has over 4million registered users–many of them paid. Between the print edition and the online portal, Financial Times is read by over 2.1million people worldwide daily–making it one of the largest business newspapers.
Finally, Pearson also runs the Pearson Education group. This is the wing of the company that specializes in educational publishing and the publishing of software, assessments and training. This is the portion of the company that brings in the majority of its revenue. This wing of the company is also currently hiring for 17 different positions in their Chandler office–so jump on those if you’re looking.

Products

Pearson releases a lot of different products–but they’re all grouped together with the intent of educating the users. They release thousands of books through their Penguin imprint, many of which are of the business and education variety. The company has become one of the leaders in e-book technology–which has helped them continue to be successful as people are rapidly moving away from purchasing paperbacks. The FT also educates businesspeople worldwide on market conditions.
Pearson’s education wing is where the company really shines. Pearson Education is the leading pre K-12 curriculum, testing, and software company in the US. The company offers a variety of early learning products to help students get a jump on the public education system. They also provide elementary and secondary school curriculum in reading, literature, maths, science and social studies.
The learning doesn’t stop when school ends–Pearson also provides extensive professional education. The company is one of the leaders in IT training–owning companies such as Cisco Press and IBM Press. The company provides lots of resources for IT training. They also provide IT certification and assessment solutions. Education is becoming more and more important than ever and Pearson has positioned itself to lead the brightest minds in the world towards a very successful future.

  1. Wow, here I am reading about local startups and I run across Pearson, the company I work for, in real life.     I am a producer in Digital Production Management. We create large scale digital learning products for K-12. BTW, great company to work for. Thanks for the write up.

    • Hi Dave,
I am a recently retired K-12 teacher and would love to learn more about how I could work for someone like Pearson. I believe I have lots to offer a company like this.
      Thoughts?
