Launch a startup in 54 Hours – Startup Weekend, Chandler begins July 27, 2012

July 27 through July 29, 2012, anyone with an innovative business idea, the passion to succeed, and the courage to register can build it during Startup Weekend Chandler.
A 54-hour long entrepreneurial marathon.
Startup Weekend is a 54-hour event that draws developers, designers, managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing pros, and more together to build a new business – in one weekend. This year’s event will be held at the Gangplank collaborative co-working facility, 260 S. Arizona Avenue in Chandler.
Much like a Tough Mudder event for the startup-minded, Startup Weekend tests your strength, grit, creativity, and camaraderie. Beginning on Friday evening, participants are challenged to pitch new business ideas, organize teams, and deliver a prototype by Sunday night. In some cases teams stay on site the entire weekend to reach that goal, sacrificing comfortable slumber at home in favor of power naps on concrete floors to save time.
All ideas and all participants are welcome.
Startup Weekend is known widely for attracting software developers with tech business dreams. However all ideas, from participants of all expertises are welcome. Chow Locally, a business born out of last year’s Startup Weekend is a prime example. Rather than computing, Chow’s niche is culinary. The company connects consumers with fresh local farm produce delivered weekly.
Continuing the diversity trend, Startup Weekend Chandler 2012 has taken special steps to attract women, including recruiting female entrepreneurs, mentors, speakers, and pitch judges to participate.
Unsure? Get familiar and network at pre-events beforehand.
Breaking from the traditional Startup Weekend format, Startup Weekend Chandler will allow participants to team up beforehand. In fact, realizing the difficulty of forming teams from uninitiated, would-be strangers, three pre-events will be held to facilitate connections.
Pre-events
July 12th 6-8pm – Startup Weekend 101. For those unfamiliar with the event.
July 24th 6-8pm – Co-Founder Speed Dating (RSVP). Round-robin networking.
July 27th 3-5pm – A final “ice breaker” just prior to the official start.
Then start building.
This year’s event will be held at the Gangplank collaborative co-working facility, 260 S. Arizona Avenue in Chandler. Gangplank features wi-fi, common areas, and conference rooms to accommodate teams. The 54-hour event ends on Sunday.

  1. Tom, yes, the pre-events will be held at Gangplank. Check the Chandler Startup Weekend blog for details. I recently read that Startup Weekend 101 pre-event attendees get a discount code for early bird pricing.
